Following the world premiere of the STARIA Electric at the recent Brussels Motor Show, Hyundai has now unveiled the new STARIA Camper Concept at the CMT (Caravan, Motor und Touristik) trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany. Derived from the new STARIA, which boasts a refreshed design, updated interior, improved driving dynamics, and advanced technologies, the STARIA Camper Concept showcases how Hyundai's futuristic MPV model could evolve into a premium recreational vehicle for the European market. If the concept goes into production, it will be a fully electric vehicle based on the STARIA Electric.

Designed to enhance comfort, relaxation, and ease of use during travel, the STARIA Camper Concept combines Hyundai’s extensive experience in special-purpose vehicle development with a clear approach focused on real camping needs. One of its most striking features is the fully integrated, electrically operated retractable roof. This roof creates a brighter and more spacious living area when parked, while also facilitating access to the galley. Developed to maintain STARIA’s aerodynamic efficiency, the retractable roof also helps reduce wind noise and vibrations while driving. Finished in the same body-colored, high-quality material as the rest of the roof, the system can be opened and closed effortlessly at the touch of a button.

STARIA Camper Concept is ready for off-grid adventures.

The STARIA Camper Concept is designed for adventure enthusiasts seeking greater independence beyond traditional campsites, supporting extended stays. A 520W lightweight composite solar panel integrated into the retractable roof can generate up to 2.6 kWh of electricity daily, based on an average of five hours of sunlight. This system can power onboard equipment such as a 36-liter refrigerator, portable shower, and cabin temperature control system, extending driving range, or support off-grid autonomy for longer, self-sufficient journeys.

Comfortable interior

The STARIA Camper Concept explores the use of electronically adjustable smart glass in the rear of the cabin to enhance safety and overall comfort during travel or relaxation. Controlled via a dedicated touchscreen module, this system allows for instant adjustment of transparency and darkening levels, while offering significantly better UV, heat, and acoustic insulation compared to traditional glass. Inside the cabin, the two high-equipped captain's seats in the front can rotate 180 degrees electrically, creating a spacious, lounge-like social area. In the rear, the seats can be fully folded down at the push of a button, quickly transforming the interior into a comfortable sleeping area for two.

STARIA Camper Concept from STARIA Elektrik

The production version of the STARIA Camper Concept could be developed for the European market based on the STARIA Electric. Thanks to the advanced 800-volt high-voltage architecture already proven in the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and IONIQ 9 models, DC fast charging from 10% to 80% can be completed in approximately 20 minutes under suitable conditions. The 160 kW front-wheel-drive electric powertrain delivers smooth and predictable performance with extremely low noise and vibration levels, providing a calm and refined driving experience. For greater ride comfort and a noticeably quieter cabin, especially on long highway journeys and under varying load conditions, the vehicle features structural improvements to the front and rear suspension and additional sound insulation materials. Offering an estimated range of up to 400 kilometers on a single charge according to WLTP, the STARIA Electric ranks among the longest-range electric MPVs in its class, establishing a suitable foundation for a premium electric camper.
