Continental has completed its 5th generation hybrid tire family, developed for regional freight transport, with the new Conti Hybrid HT 5 trailer tire. Offering high mileage performance, low rolling resistance and improved wet grip, the new trailer tire provides fleets with more economical, safe and sustainable operations.

Leading tire manufacturer Continental has expanded its 5th generation hybrid tire family developed specifically for regional freight transport with the Conti Hybrid HT 5. The new trailer tire, which delivers reliable performance across various scenarios ranging from urban distribution to highways and short-distance construction site roads, is designed to increase fleet operational efficiency with its compatibility with front and drive axles.
Hinnerk Kaiser, Head of Product Development for Bus and Truck Tires at Continental, commented on the new product as follows: “We developed the Conti Hybrid HT 5 to meet the high daily demands of regional distribution transport. It delivers safe, efficient, and durable performance under challenging operational conditions such as frequent stop-and-go traffic, maneuvering in tight spaces, cornering, and variable load conditions.”
Savings of up to 32 tires per year with Conti Hybrid HT 5
The Conti Hybrid HT 5 offers up to 15% higher mileage performance compared to the previous generation Conti Hybrid HT 3+ model. This increase contributes to reducing tire replacement costs in trailer operations.
For a typical regional fleet with 80 trailers and an average annual mileage of 110,000 kilometers per trailer, this improvement corresponds to approximately 32 fewer tire replacements per year. As a result, not only tire costs but also operational burdens related to replacement, storage, and procurement processes are reduced.
Thanks to optimized rolling resistance, fuel consumption is reduced, directly positively impacting fleet operating costs. Considering that tires constitute a significant portion of total operating costs in commercial vehicle fleets, this improvement provides a critical economic advantage. At the same time, reduced new tire production contributes to lower raw material consumption and helps reduce CO₂ emissions throughout the value chain.
Strong grip on wet and cold surfaces
Thanks to the newly developed tread compound and optimized tread pattern, the Conti Hybrid HT 5 delivers improved grip performance, especially in wet and cold road conditions. The tire holds a “B” rating for wet performance on the EU tire label.
Zigzag-shaped central grooves and specially designed 2D siping structures ensure reliable road grip even as tread depth decreases. Optimized tread stiffness supports balanced pressure distribution, contributing to stable and controlled braking performance on wet surfaces.
In addition, the tire has an “A” rating for external rolling noise on the EU label, helping reduce environmental noise pollution with its low noise emissions.
Technological compatibility for every axle
With the addition of the Conti Hybrid HT 5 to its product range, Continental offers a technologically aligned structure across all axles in regional transport. Following the Conti Hybrid HS 5, which provides precise steering and driving comfort on the front axle, and the Conti Hybrid HD 5, which delivers strong traction and balanced braking performance on the drive axle, the Conti Hybrid HT 5 completes the portfolio on the trailer axle with high driving stability, robust structure, and reliable grip under variable load conditions. The optimized carcass structure of the Hybrid Gen 5 family enables retreading across multiple life cycles, while all tires can be integrated into digital fleet management systems via RFID sensors.
The new member of the 5th generation hybrid tire family is also equipped with smart sensor technology and, thanks to its compatibility with the ContiConnect digital tire management system, provides fleets with operational transparency and efficiency advantages.
Sales of the Conti Hybrid HT 5 have started in 385/65 R22.5 and 385/55 R22.5 sizes, with plans to expand the product range with new sizes by 2027.
