  • The IONIQ 3, the newest member of the IONIQ family to be produced by Hyundai in Izmit, was unveiled at its world premiere at Milan Design Week.

  • The IONIQ 3, which stands out with its new “Aero Hatch” design philosophy, combines aerodynamic efficiency with a spacious interior.

  • The Android Automotive OS (AAOS) based Pleos Connect infotainment system is being offered for the first time in a Hyundai model in Europe.

  • Production of the IONIQ 3 will begin in August at Hyundai's Izmit factory and will be exported to more than 40 countries.

Hyundai has unveiled the IONIQ 3, a fully electric compact hatchback developed to make electric mobility more intuitive, comfortable, and suitable for daily needs in Europe, in Italy. Milan Design Week provides a natural setting for Hyundai's design narrative, bringing the brand's long-standing design heritage into dialogue with leading creative voices in Europe. Returning to the global design capital, Hyundai highlights a legacy that began with the 1974 Pony Coupé designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, underlining how design has continuously shaped the brand's approach to modern electric mobility.

The IONIQ 3 combines a powerful design inspired by Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design philosophy with simple and user-friendly technologies and a spacious and comfortable interior. As the second electric model to be produced in Turkey, the IONIQ 3 reflects a human-centered vision of modern electric mobility with its approach that balances simplicity, precision, and the naturalness of materials.

Efficiency and spaciousness combined with the new “Aero Hatch” design

The IONIQ 3 reflects a new “Aero Hatch” design philosophy optimized to offer both aerodynamic efficiency and interior spaciousness. The low and flowing front design continues with a roofline that runs straight over both front and rear passengers, and integrates dynamically by slopes downwards towards the rear spoiler. This geometry provides a noticeable sense of spaciousness and comfort in the interior, especially for rear passengers, by increasing headroom.

“The IONIQ 3 makes electric mobility more accessible in Europe.”

Hyundai Motor Europe President and CEO Xavier Martinet said the following about the new model:

“The IONIQ 3 plays a significant role in Hyundai’s electric vehicle range in Europe. It offers the core values of the IONIQ brand – design, advanced technology, and a human-centered approach – in a compact format suitable for everyday use. With the IONIQ 3, we are making electric mobility more accessible. Complementing the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, the model offers an alternative that adapts to city life and family use, without compromising on quality, safety, and efficiency.”

Developed for European Users

The IONIQ 3 is designed for young families and users who value functionality, primarily for urban use. Built on Hyundai Motor Group's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the model offers a balanced combination of efficiency, range, and charging performance with its 400-volt electric architecture.

The new model offers two different battery options. The standard range battery offers a range of over 344 km (WLTP), while the long-range battery offers a range of over 496 km (WLTP). The 42.2 kWh standard version uses an LFP type battery, while the 61 kWh (Long range) version uses an NCM battery. Both models will have a front-mounted electric motor and front-wheel drive. They will be equipped with three different driving modes and, like other IONIQ models, a regenerative cooling system.

Design Reflecting a Modern City Character

The IONIQ 3 brings Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design language to the compact EV segment. Hyundai, the only brand in the world that produces almost all of the steel used in its own vehicles in its own facilities, uses this approach, inspired by steel production, to simplify surfaces and create a strong and clear visual impact.

The pixel lighting signature and the four-point detail referencing the letter "H" in Morse code reinforce the model's characteristic design. A drag coefficient of approximately 0.263 supports aerodynamic efficiency while reinforcing its modern design identity. The model can be personalized with 11 different exterior colors, various interior combinations, and 16, 17, 18, and 19-inch wheel options. Furthermore, the IONIQ 3 N Line, developed for those who want more sportiness and the N spirit, offers a more striking look with its dynamic details.

Simple and intuitive technology experience

The technology in the IONIQ 3 is designed to simplify daily use rather than create complexity.

The model is equipped with the Pleos Connect infotainment system, offered for the first time in Europe. Based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), the system offers a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch screen and intuitive access to vehicle functions and connectivity. Staying true to the "hands on the wheel, eyes on the road" philosophy for safety, information such as speed and real-time driving parameters can be monitored on a separate digital screen in the cockpit, positioned above the steering wheel.

Other key features include: Hyundai Digital Key 2, Plug & Charge, integrated EV route planner, and interior and exterior V2L (Vehicle-to-Load). With fast charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes under optimal conditions. AC charging capacity reaches up to 22 kW.

Despite its compact size, the IONIQ 3 offers a spacious and comfortable interior.

Designed with a “Furnished Space” approach, the interior elements are positioned to create a living space. The long wheelbase and flat floor provide ample legroom and headroom, while the luggage capacity offers practical solutions for daily use. The Megabox, a hidden storage area under the luggage compartment, provides additional convenience. The generous 441-liter luggage capacity is expected to set standards in the segment and support ease of daily use. Two large suitcases can easily fit in the luggage compartment at the same time. This extra volume means that a typical B-segment vehicle cannot have such a large loading capacity.

Interior comfort can also be opted for with the following features depending on the market dynamics and standard equipment:

  • Relaxation seats

  • Heated and ventilated seats

  • Recycled and bio-based materials

  • BOSE® Premium sound system

  • Dual-zone climate control

  • Ambient lighting

Advanced Safety and Driving Assistance Systems

The IONIQ 3 is equipped with Hyundai SmartSense driving assistance systems. Additionally, Projection LED headlights and the Intelligent Front Lighting System (IFS) enhance visibility and safety.

  • Key Features:

  • Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2)

  • Remote Intelligent Parking Assist (RSPA)

  • Parking Maneuver with Memory (MRA)

  • Surround View Camera (SVM)

  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BVM)

  • 7 Airbags

Developed for Europe, to be manufactured in Turkey.

The IONIQ 3, designed in Europe, will be manufactured at Hyundai's Izmit factory in Turkey starting in August. Sales in Turkey will begin in September, simultaneously with its European launch. Offering two engine options producing 147 PS (107.8 kW) and 135 PS (99.5 kW), and both delivering 250 Nm of torque, the model has been developed to adapt to modern European life with a maximum speed of 170 km/h.
