Hyundai Motor Group has strengthened its position in robotic mobility with another major international achievement. Developed by the Group’s Robotics LAB division, MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid) received the “Winner” award in the Product Design category at the 2026 Red Dot Design Awards.
Combining human-centered design, advanced mobility engineering, and AI-supported technologies, the platform reflects Hyundai’s broader vision for next-generation mobility solutions.
Designed to adapt to a wide range of usage scenarios, MobED is capable of operating efficiently not only in controlled indoor environments but also in dynamic real-world conditions. By integrating Hyundai Motor Group’s Drive and Lift technology with its Eccentric Wheel mechanism, the platform maintains stability across slopes, curbs, and uneven terrain while delivering advanced maneuverability. This capability expands the potential use of robotic systems in everyday life.
A key factor behind MobED’s award-winning success is Hyundai Robotics LAB’s “Refined Edge” design philosophy. Focused on creating more natural interaction between humans and robots, this approach shapes both the platform’s visual identity and its user experience. As a result, MobED stands out not only for its technical capabilities but also for its intuitive and accessible design.
Powered by AI-based control systems, the scalable platform can be utilized across multiple sectors including logistics, delivery services, inspection operations, and autonomous mobility applications. Hyundai Motor Group AVP Division President Minwoo Park emphasized that MobED represents a meaningful real-world example of Physical AI technologies, highlighting that robotics systems are rapidly becoming part of everyday life rather than remaining conceptual innovations.
First introduced as a concept at CES 2022, MobED was later showcased in a near-production-ready form at iREX 2025. Bringing together robotics engineering, artificial intelligence, and advanced mobility technologies, the platform demonstrates Hyundai’s commitment to building a future mobility ecosystem that extends far beyond conventional vehicles.
