The Heavy Commercial Vehicles Association (TAID) has released its evaluation of the market data and sectoral trends for the January–September 2025 period. According to TAID data, the heavy commercial vehicle market reached a total of 26,608 units sold in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 7% contraction compared to the same period last year. However, this decline did not affect all segments equally.

Sales in the below-16-ton truck segment increased by 6% to 4,427 units, while tractor sales dropped by 11% to 12,135 units. In the 16-ton-and-above truck segment, sales fell by 7%, reaching 10,046 units.
In September 2025, the total heavy commercial vehicle market grew by 14% year-on-year, totaling 3,271 units. During this month, tractor sales increased by 57% to 1,610 units, while 16-ton-and-above trucks fell by 19% to 964 units, and below-16-ton trucks decreased by 8% to 697 units.
TAID Chairman Burak Hoşgören described 2025 as a year of “cautious optimism” for the industry:
“When we look at the figures by segment, we see a growth trend particularly in trucks under 16 tons. The 6% increase in this segment mainly stems from ongoing reconstruction and urban transformation efforts in earthquake-affected regions.”
Hoşgören also emphasized several key factors shaping the results of the first nine months:
“First and foremost, the overall economic environment influences investment decisions. The slowdown in foreign trade volume and uncertainties in export markets negatively impacted demand, particularly in the tractor segment. The stagnation in logistics activities further reinforced this effect. Moreover, consistent cash flow remains crucial in vehicle purchases. With interest rates now trending downward, we expect demand to revive in the coming period. When we look at the data for September 2025, we already observe signs of recovery.”

31% increase in the semi-trailer market
In the first nine months of 2025, semi-trailer sales rose by 31%, reaching 7,033 units. This increase was driven mainly by fleet renewal projects and activity in the construction and mining sectors. The strongest growth was observed in curtain-sider and bulk cargo trailer segments.
Last Quarter Hope in the Market
According to TAID data, the Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market (16-ton and above trucks/tractors) increased by 36% compared to the 10-year average of September sales. Tractor sales rose by 46%, while truck sales climbed by 22% against the same benchmark. These figures suggest that expectations for the final quarter of the year could turn positive. Hoşgören added:
“With interest rates declining and access to financing improving, postponed fleet investments are likely to resurface. This could lead to a stronger-than-expected performance in the last quarter of the year.”
Sharing his outlook for 2026, TAID Chairman Hoşgören stated:
“We remain cautious yet hopeful for 2026. As postponed investments come into play, the industry may return to a growth trajectory. In addition, rising interest in electric and alternative-fuel vehicles will usher in a new transformation phase for the sector.”
Hoşgören also pointed out that the tightened European Union emission standards are shaping the industry’s direction:
“Logistics companies with commercial ties to the EU are increasingly shifting toward environmentally friendly vehicles, accelerating the transformation in the Turkish market. This process compels our industry to invest in digital infrastructure and green technologies. Turkey can become an alternative regional logistics hub — but only if we keep pace with this transformation.”
